# KhelVision camera recording guide

Version 1.0 - 30 August 2026

This is KhelVision's preferred capture profile for source-aligned rally indexing. It is practical
guidance, not a guaranteed acceptance threshold or a performance promise. Existing authorised
footage can still be assessed during an assisted pilot.

## The short version

- Record one match on one court or table where possible.
- Use a fixed, rigid mount. Do not pan or zoom during play.
- Keep the whole play surface and every player in frame, with safety margin around the edges.
- Record in landscape at 1080p or higher.
- Use 30 fps for badminton and pickleball; 60 fps is preferred for table tennis when available.
- Keep audio enabled and the microphone unobstructed. Public product material does not claim an
audio model; preserving audio keeps the source useful for review and future agreed
  processing.
- Preserve one untouched original privately. Do not re-encode, concatenate, crop, add overlays, or
remove audio before qualification unless the intake plan explicitly asks for it.

## Camera geometry

For badminton and pickleball, start behind one baseline, centred on the court, elevated on a rigid
mount, and tilted down enough to keep the full court plus margin in view. Around 30 degrees of
downward tilt is a useful venue-dependent starting point, not a universal calibrated angle.

For table tennis, keep the entire table, both players, and their normal movement area in frame.
Choose a background and exposure that keep the ball and players distinguishable; avoid a bright
window or moving crowd directly behind the table.

## Preferred source profile

| Dimension | Preferred profile | Why it matters |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Framing | One match, one play surface, full player movement area | Background play and cropped players create ambiguous temporal evidence |
| Stability | Tripod, wall mount, balcony rail, or other rigid mount | Camera motion can look like play motion and changes the scene geometry |
| Resolution | 1080p or higher | Preserves small-object and court detail for qualification and review |
| Frame rate | 30 fps badminton/pickleball; 60 fps preferred for table tennis | Preserves more temporal evidence for fast play |
| Orientation | Landscape | Fits the court/table and reduces player cropping |
| File | Original MP4 preferred; H.264 or HEVC | Avoids unnecessary generation loss and preserves source evidence |
| Audio | Enabled, microphone unobstructed | Retains an independent review cue; no public audio-model claim |
| Lighting | Even, stable, no severe backlight or glare | Reduces blur, exposure pumping, and loss of subject contrast |

## Sixty-second venue preflight

1. Clean the lens and secure the mount, power, storage, and heat management.
2. Record 20 seconds of movement at both near and far ends of the play surface.
3. Check focus at the far end and confirm no player leaves the frame.
4. Check bright uniforms, white lines, the net, and the ball/shuttle do not disappear into glare.
5. Disable panning, digital zoom, beauty filters, and aggressive automatic reframing.
6. Confirm audio is present and not clipped by an enclosure or blocked microphone.
7. Start a new original file for the session and keep the camera fixed after play begins.

## Rights and safe intake

Record only where you are authorised to record and process the footage. Inform adult participants
and obtain the permissions needed for the intended use. Do not submit footage, private share links,
credentials, player details, or information about minors through the public KhelVision request
form. If a pilot fits, source transfer, processors, retention, deletion, and permitted outputs are
agreed separately before any media moves.

Keep your own original. KhelVision is not the only copy or archival system for a source recording.

### Original, transfer copy, and public derivative

- **Private source of record:** keep the untouched camera original, including its source metadata.
- **Pilot transfer copy:** follow the agreed intake plan and minimise GPS, device serials, unique
identifiers, owner tags, embedded thumbnails, and unrelated metadata unless a field is required.
- **Public derivative:** re-encode and strip all source metadata before publication. Rights review is
still required; removing metadata does not create permission to publish people or venues.

## Existing footage

Do not discard an existing recording because it does not match this profile. An assisted pilot can
qualify one representative original and report limitations. Tell us the sport, original resolution
and frame rate, camera position, whether more than one court/table is visible, approximate duration,
and intended output - but do not send the file or a private URL through the public form.
